Shoe care
Basic rules for leather care
- Always test care products on an inconspicuous area or on the inside of the leather first.
- Never treat leather with harsh solvents or cleaning agents.
- Allow damp leather to dry at room temperature and do not expose it to extreme heat.
- Impregnate leather regularly to reduce dirt absorption and provide protection against moisture and water stains.
Care of nubuck, suede and suede leather
Impregnation is particularly important for nubuck and suede leather. Before the first treatment, use an impregnating agent that penetrates deep into the pores of the leather. A dirt brush or a brush with crepe lamellas is recommended for removing dirt.
Care of nappa and smooth leather
For the daily care of smooth leather, it is sufficient to wipe the leather carefully with a damp cotton or leather cloth. Use distilled water to prevent limescale. When using care products, always follow the manufacturer's instructions and test the product on a less visible part of the shoe. Care products for smooth leather include leather oils, greases, emulsions, creams, foams, sprays and special leather waxes.
Care products with a deep effect
These include leather oils and greases that are specially designed for the care of heavy work shoes or hiking boots. They help to maintain the texture and waterproofness of the leather.
Care products with a surface effect
Creams, emulsions, sprays and foams improve the appearance of the leather surface, make it shine and protect it.
Leather care in general
Leather develops signs of wear over time and some types of leather fade. The more regularly leather is cleaned and cared for, the longer it will stay beautiful. Open-pored leather such as suede or nubuck should be impregnated regularly. Leather needs to be re-greased in order to remain soft and supple. Depending on the type of leather, there are a variety of care products such as leather care milk, leather care cream, leather greases, leather oils, sprays, foams, waxes or leather balm.
